Walk to School Month

Harrow's school children are being encouraged to walk into school as much as they can this month as part of national Walk to School month. The month had a 'walk to school' week early on with a great number of participants, ensuring it was dubbed the Big WoW (Walk on Wednesday).

Parents across the borough are being encouraged to leave their cars behind on Wednesday to explore and discover fascinating local landmarks, while keeping their kids fit and healthy.

This year's theme is 'Wow! Landmarks!' - encouraging the youngsters in the borough to take notice of town halls, community centres, parks and museums.

At Glebe Middle School in Harrow, pupils in years 6 and 7 will be walking along the East Kenton Urban Trail and the Glebe First School will be walking to the park.

In addition, pupils at Nower Hill are taking part in a Try Cycling project, to encourage students to try cycling to school over a four week period. The programme challenges students to cycle to school half the time during the four week period.

Two schools have also had air quality awareness sessions and activities which encourage sustainable transport and discuss the impact our travel choices have on local air quality, to great success.
