Wow that's a lot of pre-orders. It's very encouraging that people would like to drive an EV which I think is the point to take from this: if marketed correctly, positively and not 'sitting on the fence' it could help propel the electric rollout.
Not a big fan myself, the Leaf is just a Nissan with electrics and I'd rather see an electric pioneer do well than a company like Nissan. They could have done this years ago but chose not to. Tesla are real pioneer because they were determined to only do it the electric way.
beg to differ, FreshJazz. Car manufacturers are not here to lead but innovate. What Nissan is doing is innovation and breaking the ice. They've done a great job of selling the Leaf to green-conscious and NORMAL consumers which is a HUGE leap forward. The Citroen C1 Evie didn't take off (or hasn't yet) because the timing was off and it didn't have anticipation or fanfare. The Leaf has both and it's preordering early enough to gage demand.
Have to disagree with you, FreshJazz. Don't hold it against Nissan for coming late to the party because they're still ahead of other manufacturers. Mitsu could not sell well and then blame the tech. Nissan are making it easier to adopt the tech and encouraging those who are considering a new car to consider this one for the right reasons. I'm sure they'll have test drives and marketing nearer release to shout about it more, which is what someone needs to do to get into the market. I agree Tesla are leaders in their thought and execution but it's a different thing to start out and be all electric and be someone who currently has a massive base of vehicles and clients and then to go electric with one of your models. It's like testing the water but through making a splash. They are not saying "here's our latest models and oh, er um here's an electric car" they've MADE their next model an Electric and are shouting about it. Good on them because no matter if you like or don't like the car, it's great it's coming soon, has a name like Nissan behind it and is being ordered in big quantities because that means there will be demand for more cars, charging stations etc.
Well said Shah!!
Don't like the look of it but love what they're doing so they have my vote. I will be looking for one and I'm hoping with so many preorodrs I can get one second hand in a year or so!
The Nissan Leaf is getting more coverage than it's worth. It's not even out yet! I'm more interested in knowing what Clarkson thinks, that'd swing it for me.
CATMAN, stick with what YOU think than someone else's opinion but yes I too would like to see his review of it. I hope we get it in the UK soon too.
I am going to get one and put my GoCycle in it then drive it to Arnold Schwarzenegger and ask him to come back in time with me.
Check out the stats, this is the car we've been waiting for!!! An electric that has futuristic functions, doesn't seem a radical departure from current cars so you get into one and feel comfortable and it has respectable family-friendly performance. What is wrong with the naysayers? Go green!!!!!!
Supercar!!!
Got to say I love the look of this car. Nissan have come up with something radically different and cool with this one. I haven't sat in a Nissan in over ten years when I was in my Uncle's Bluebird. After a long time I'm considering getting one, depending on the price of course!
Can't wait for this leaf to fall!!!
Be fair Jameel, it hasn't even arrived yet! Might be a good car. Certainly has a lot of people excited.
Sorry guys what I meant was it to drop, as in be released, not fail! Sometimes my lingo gets me in trubbble!
I've seen some footage of this on YT and it's looking very promising. Finally a car that looks like, feels like and drives like a car but is electric. I just hope that they install charging stations at petrol stations!
Hybrids have really taken off here in the US. It's like taboo to not own a clean car in many ways so I'm pleased to see that Europe are trying the same thing but one step further. Teslas are awesome but only for a limited market, mass market stuff by Toyota and Chevvy are the way forward. It'd be interesting to see if the Leaf takes off in as big a way as anticipated. I'm encouraged that so many people have preordered it in the US, especially when I thought people would go for hybrid but not electric. I guess it's all to do with the Obama effect where change is good and embracing the future rather than fearing it. I hope these vehicles work, lead and help us help the planet and reduce the devastating effects of global warming such as the extreme climates we've had in recent years and of course the earthquakes that plague us.
Interesting to see how this is launched and if it gets as big a response in the UK where everyone is tightening spending as it is in the US. Pleased to see this arrive though in my lifetime.
Nissan have got this right
The LEAF is great, but I need to know:
PRICE
WHEN WE CAN HAVE ONE
WHEN CAN WE TEST DRIVE ONE
The more I look at the Leaf the more it appeals to me. I'm excited by the fast chargers too and home chargers that have appeared today on the blog. Great stuff, I really think electric cars will take off now!
Agree anon, it's a lovely car. Can't wait for details on availability and price.
Gorgeous vehicle, it's the Tesla of us normal people.
Every day that passes, I count down to the release of this vehicle. SIGH!
