Yes but it's also so cold!
Is it true if you're cold and you walk you burn off more than on a warmer day? I read it somewhere but it makes no sense to me and to be honest, I've walked a bit and noticed no weight loss.
Walking in colder conditions requires the body to work harder to firstly increase the temperature of the body and is therefore slightly more difficult than walking in "normal" conditions, so yes you use more energy and therefore burn more calories. Walking in the snow with the resistance of snow is great exercise, walking generally works but if you're looking to lose a lot of weight you should walk briskly so your heart rate goes up. Two ways to monitor this are:
a heart rate monitor
check your breathing.
The faster you need to breathe, the higher your heartrate. The key is not to turn it into a run but walk fast.
Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice.
Thanks WALKMAN, very usefull to know.
Thank you WALKMAN.
Walking on an empty stomach also burns stored fat and kickstarts the metabolism, but on the other hand, don't skip breakfast!
How do you do that? Walk to work but don’t skip breakfast???
You could go for a walk as soon as you wake up then come back home, have breakfast and then go into work.
Yeah that’s an excellent idea, I have loads of time in the morning and need just a few seconds to snap out of night tiredness. NOT! What a stupid idea that’s so impractical.
How about walking around your living room briskly while waiting for breakfast?
Waiting for breakfast??? Where do you guys live? It doesn’t come along you have to make it!!
OK, I think waiting for breakfast meant waiting for cereal milk to warm up, egg to boil, kettle to boil etc.
You could wake up and get ready, walk to work and have breakfast there but if it’s a while since you woke up you’ll probably be hungrier and prone to eat more in the day, so not the best option. Alternatively just walk when you can. Any exercise that increases the heart rate on an empty stomach helps the metabolism fuel up the furnace, so just get up and do a few star jumps/exercise or something, even if just for a few mins to get your heart rate up. Have some water then go for breakfast. Then walk to work to start working it off and you’ll also burn it at a faster rate thanks to those star jumps you did.
If you’re not too fussed and don’t want this turning into such a regime, just basically walk when you can. Every step counts and the simplest way to break it down is the more you move the more calories you’re burning!
Yet again WALKMAN, thanks!!!
WALKMAN SAVES THE DAY!
Our streets are safe and our feet are safe thanks to you and your efforts walkman! Now where's cycleman, get him to move to Harrow too! Do you guys wear capes?
Thanks all!
