10:10

10:10 is the national effort to cut the UK’s emissions by 10% in 2010. By committing to cut your emissions by 10% in 2010, you will join thousands of individuals and organisations all actively helping stop climate change by making simple changes to their lifestyles, homes and businesses. If we in the UK can prove that fast, deep cuts can be made at a national level, then we may just inspire all the other big polluting countries to follow suit. Find out more here.
If you're in London and can be at the Tate Modern between 4pm and 7pm, come along for the launch today where there will be speeches, giveaways and more.

Sounds cool and I work near there, will be there after 530pm! Cheers.

I like it, but the site should have more support on what to do to cut emissions. It's like signing up for something without knowing how to do it.

It says you sign up and can get helper emails. The Guardian seems to be a media partner so check their site for more tips.

I like the campaign name, but agree it's kind of gone over my head. Cut my emissions? What am I committing to given my hectic lifestyle? I mean, I know because I'm a bit clued up and cos this site keeps telling me to walk, cycle, car share etc. But I just forwarded to a friend and she was like, "what do you want me to do again?"

I thought this post was about a Bible quote!

I'll be at the launch too, I'll pop in after work around 6ish, hope it's good and you get it all done. Well done to the Stupid team for this and thanks its up to all of us for putting this up. I had heard about it via an email but wasn't planning to go until this reminder.

10%, pfft! We can all do that, and probably are! Sign up everyone, let's show them it's up to all of us!!!

Hmm, the website should have more info, it just basically signs you up. Also do we get one of those 1010 chains for signing up? What's the incentive?

Peter Younge said...

Er, Jamal, the incentive is you HELP THE ENVIRONMENT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! kinda missing the point if you didn't see that!!

Jamal Khanum said...

I'll sign up, I'm just saying merchandise on the back of this could be cool. I'd pay a fiver for a chain. More for a date with Samantha Morton!

Frank U said...

I think we'd all cut our emissions for Sam Morton!! I loved Baby Come On Over!

Jenny Thomas said...

LOL@Frank U: That's Samantha Mumba you're thinking of!!!! Sam Morton is an actress. Google, people.

Lol. Ok back to topic. There's a launch today - very cool. We're all invited - even better. Some of us are going - pls report back here about it.

The least we can do is support it. Is this part of It's Up to All of Us or just something publicized here?

It's a national thing so not part of this campaign, but nice to see it up here. We're all part of the same gang see!

Swish, I can make it there today. See yous lot there. I'll be wearing my school uniform though as going straight after from Harrow.

LLPoolThames said...

Mike, good on you for going and I'm not even going to ask HOW you're getting out of school to go to this!!!

Loving it, 10 percent of emissions? Sorted. I'm selling my car next week anyway. Hope I get a mention for being the quickest to cut my emissions!!

Steve Dave said...

Jack Black better be there.

TELL EM STEVE DAVE!!!

*I've waited years to find someone called Steve Dave to say that!

I think I've lost the plot, but anyway back to what this post is all about..

10:10 is about cutting emissions - e.g. the way you travel!!!

We all are doing this and are interested in it anyway otherwise wouldn't be on this site right now, so it's a no brainer to sign up. It's run by the people who made the film The Age of Stupid. You've heard of it right? It was also publicized here on this site when they had their UK premiere!

I suspect there is some link between It's Up to All of Us and 10:10 or Stupid given we read about some of their activity here, but that's besides the point. The main thing is we're all already committed to reducing our emissions and greener living, let's sign up. Yes they could have not used the word emissions and included a whole segment in their marketing but what the heck. We're intelligent people who are knowledgable and interested in climate change so let's do this!

Is the Tate Modern free or will I have to pay to go in?

I don't get the comment about Steve Dave. Did I miss something?

James Crowe said...

NonuParker: Steve Dave as in Chasing Amy!

I love how we all think alike on this site. Greenies ain't meanies! We all wanna save the planet, so whose gonna stop us?

Why is this not actually being launched at 10:10 am?? that would have had a big impact and it should have been launched on October 10 at 10:10. Or at least on Sept 10 as in 09/10 at 10:10.

Man, no one gives thought to these things anymore or importance to numbers.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Boopster, no attention to numbers that's why this campaign's all about cutting TEN percent of emissions by TWENTY TEN!

Suzie Crawford said...

I hope this isn't one of those campaigns that fizzles out and has no momentum. They need to have a game plan for and up til their deadline to cut emissions along with a lot of free guidance, publications and support for people to achieve their targets. The DIY Planet Repairs and 100 Days ones are just examples of money being poured into something and then it ends pointlessly.

Clive Rutherford said...

If it was 2010 as in 20 percent by 2010 that would have been so good!!! Or even 2012 if that's not realistic. 1010 is a bit of an anticlimax.

Isn't Tate Modern near one of the Underground hotspots? ;)

I'm @ TateModrn and it's very wet. Bit of a turnout though!
