Someone has emailed in asking about how they can start car sharing when they don't know enough people at work to be comfortable asking if anyone wants a lift.
Display your green awareness by signing up at www.londonliftshare.com and offering a lift through there. The website (which replaces the West London Car Share scheme) allows users to register their desired journey as well as offer lifts to others. Remember, safety first! This not only means buckling up when in the car but also sharing with only identified people you do work with. Check their ID and ensure you follow the safety instructions on the site, which is approved by Transport for London.
So the next conversation by the water cooler could be:
"Fancy a lift home?"
"Are you going my way?"
"Check at www.londonliftshare.com. I'm a bit of a greenie."
"Me too. Let's do lunch?"
"Nice one."

I share two journeys a week with colleagues and it's pretty good. We complain about work together and catch up in a way I would hate to do during office hours. I've made new buddies now too!
I agree, car sharing is cool. I can't give up my car as I need it for work so it you can't give it up at least get a cleaner car and share some journeys with someone.
I registered ages ago and no one is going my way. What do I do?
If no one's going your way, offer a lift, maybe someone needs to go your route!

Car sharing is so much fun and better than taking a bus anyday. Make your car your own personal bus and pick yuour friends and colleges on the way. I love car sharing as longas there is no smoking eating drinking.

I car share 2 days a week - Monday and Friday. I work at Harrow Civic Centre and on Monday evening and Friday evening I drop 2 people home on the way as they leave early enough to come with me. I never thought of it as doing my part for the environment until I finally read this website. I've had a note to for ages as we have the flags up saying it's up to all of us. Great site!
I would car share but not through something like the lift sharing website, I'd rather only do it with people I know and want to take with me.
