Thought of the Day

"As we travel towards the next generation, the question becomes "how do we travel more sustainably?" In the last 100 years, we have gone from carbohydrate-powered transportation (the horse), to hydrocarbon-powered transportation (the engine). Our dependency on fossil fuel is the main reason for today's environmental pollution, climate change and political strife. What can we do as conscious consumers to ease the strain on Mother Nature's finite resources? Every day there are innovative ideas. Can you imagine even water to fill your tank?"

Nice thought and very positive. Of course I can imagine water to fill the tank. Back to the Future showed Doc filling his with Garbage thanks to a MR FUSION converter, that appeals to me to no end. I think the future is less reliant on foreign oil and more on homegrown technologies that provide long term solutions. It's thinking like this that changes the world.

Horse to car and now we need to get back to walking everywhere. In biblical times eevryone walked everywhere. There were few other options. That's why we as a nation, as a people are in our worst health position ever and the earth is too. We need to make drastic changes and make them now. It's up to all of us to make the difference, so let's do it by taking responsibility and saving the planet. NOW.

As conscious consumers we can consider every decision we make as an important one. What am I buying when I go out shopping, is it made sustainably or did it take from the planet? Do I need the extra bags or will I take in my own and re-use them? How will I get to the shops and how much space do I really need? Can I get a lift off someone else or take a bus there and back? What good did I do today to help save our planet instead of contribute to its demise?

I am keen we all start filling our tanks with something other than petrol. Gordon Brown is going to tax us more on more polluting cars so why not start our own switch now by switching to hybrid technology (if you can afford it) and electric (if you can't). The Nissan Micra bubble cars at £6-8k could easily be replaced by G Wizes and save money as they cost very little to run. Electricity powered, they are greener for the environment.

Made me think.

Me too. An interesting point. Maybe we could go back to being on horseback? THAT would be cool. Modern day cowboys.

I refer you to the post: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Electric is the future. Bzzzh.

we should travel to the next generation in the USS Enterprise. On it's continuing mission to seek new lands. To boldly go where no man has gone before.

I'm still a carbohydrate-powered being who uses my legs as transport. I need a car occasionally and am a member of a car club. I think the future is alternate fuelled cars and electric cars as part of car clubs. I HATE that my car club claims to be a green solution but offers no electric vehicles. It's not green, it's just a solution. The future is electric car clubs. Someone have that option and I'll switch to them in a jiffy.

Interesting thoughts here...................

I'm so pleased this thought puts the seed of water in our tanks. It is possible to have hydrogen powered cars that give off water residues. Even water aquacars. So why not?

I want a Mr Fusion converter too. It'll be brilliant!

My thoughts on this are percolating. I shall comment soon.

How DO we travel more sustainably and responsibly? We should ensure that every mode of transport we take does not leave a negative effect on the planet and we need to penalise those who posion it to no end. The elite in their privtae jets and helicopters and limos are the worst. We have to put a stop to it all.

I just read this comment on the site and had to share it. It sums up everything wonderfully. Thank you Woody.

"We must stop looking at Mother Nature as a resource (like corporations do) and start respecting her as a precious gift handed down through the generations. Each one of us can take steps towards becoming stewards of the environment and all of the creatures that inhabit it. We need to focus on self-sufficiency and sustainability, because we can't help anyone else until we help ourselves.

Change is going to come from you and me.

We share one very basic, very important trait: we are all consumers. If we all get together and educate ourselves about how to survive as a species without raping or poisoning Mother Earth, proactively buy the ìalternative productsî (green, eco-friendly, organic products which don’t require poisonous, toxic chemicals and pesticides) from mom and pop stores (instead of the multi-national conglomerates) and harness the power of boycott we will be well on our way to a viable future.

As we look towards that future – what do we envision? Do we feel inspired and hopeful or are we feeling the dream of our children's future slipping away? It's understandable as the media bombards us daily with reports of war, poverty, natural disasters, glaciers melting, ozone depletion, growing pollution and a declining economy. While the mainstream news keeps us focused on what's wrong, we tend to lose sight of all the good happening around us.

Good things are outweighing the bad things ninety-nine to one. Did you know... three species of whales are rebounding, ethical coffee is helping save the Peruvian Rainforest, farmers are "going green" to help prevent further global warming, and a Liberian leader forgave his fathers killers, while asking his countrymen to do the same? These are just a fraction of the good stories that should be shared to give us all hope and inspire a positive outlook on the future."

wow..... what a post. Truth spoken: it is up to us. We have to make those decisions as consumers to buy ethical products. They may be more expensive occasioanlly but not wildly more. This sends the message straight. If you refuse to poison your body with fruit and veg nurtured by pesticides, meat loaded with steroids to last longer then you are not only saving the planet but your own self too. Let's unite and send the message loud and clear: one planet, one voice. we have nowhere else to go and we have to do this.

I love the way Hollywood tells us we should put our rubbish in our cars in films that allow them to pollute the world more with even more polluting cars.

Not all dude, many stars are actually green. Not gonna go into this but just check out the posts on this site to verify.

I'd put water in my tank over petrol any day, just figure out the technology to make it not splutter when I do it.

There will be a day when solar powered vehicles, electric ones, water powered ones and so on will be the future and only acceptable forms of transport. We should make things happen faster by shrugging the petrol polluters.

Death to gas guzzlers. bring on the electric future.

There are 34 available EVs in the UK today and the majority of them can take any normal car in terms of cost and running cost. It's a mind change we need so people see and understand this. A few years back the G Wizzes were available with grants from the governments energy dept, we need more of these kinds of promotions to raise the awareness.

So true. Ditto that and let's do it.

Thanks for posting LB, very cool and open thoughts. Here's to the future you dream of.

Anonymous said...

LB that is so true, we are all consumers and can make the change. Choice people!

Freedom of choice and money talks. Show the corporations the door and only buy products that help the earth. We only get one chance at this.

If my tank ran on water, I'd be thrilled!
