Rob Lowe, The Chinese, The Terminator and the Future

One of our favourite environmentalists actor Rob Lowe recently entertained Chinese government officials in LA for Governor Schwarzenegger’s summit on global warming. Typically, the Chinese have refused to attend meetings on climate change and opposed multinational initiatives on global warming so this gesture went as far as being a breakthrough in opening lines of communication.

"I told them that we need to bring our countries to the table to have a dialogue to figure out how we can solve global warming together," said Rob who invited the officials to attend a filming of his television show Brothers & Sisters.

"I thought it was really special that the Chinese were coming," he said. "It was one of those days it was great to be in show business."

The summit was a huge success in raising many issues and uniting over 600 scientists, environmentalists and officials from around the globe. Among the transport issues highlighted were alternate fuels, new biofuel technology and low carbon transport systems. Every representative had a development to bring to the table and discuss and everyone left learning more from the leaders in this field.

The main thing I love about Rob Lowe is he seems so down to earth, does everything with a very gentlemanly presence and smile and is not sitting in a room in a self congratulatory suit stuffing white powder up his nose. He's one of Hollywood's bad boys turned good. He supports issues that affect everybody and this latest news is no surprise. Thanks Rob, you really are a star. We miss you in London and in Harrow, do return soon.

The Governator did good!

The Chinese actually coming to openly support this? What is this, the beginning of Chinese Democracy? Awesome. Well done Hollywood.

I am very impressed with this, well done Rob, Arnie (who I am slowly changing my opinion of in a more positive way) and the Chinese delegates for their efforts. Thank you.

This is excellent progress and so UNEXPECTED from the US. I've hated that they won't sign Kyoto Protocol, are leading in polluting emissions and creating wars that are not only devastating communities and humanity but also the planet. Hollywood shine won't make up for it but I suspect the good ones in every country will make things happen. I look forward to the change President Obama will bring and hope these Hollywood stars will also continue to do what they can. I am impressed with Arnold's work since he occupied office and of course Rob Lowe is an ambassador for the US. He is the ideal US citizen and representative, as displayed when he came here to London. He's not only a really nice guy but also so clued up on issues and does all he can. Glad things went well.

I love this title!

Rob is a legend. He fights for plug-in hybrids, for environmentally beneficial causes, for lymphoma and uses his celebrity to highlight the right things. Plus his Orange Wednesday ad was awesome. Well done Soda-Pop!

Harrow is so lucky to go to events like these, what else was discussed??

Anonymous said...

Superb effort and definitely a breakthrough getting dialogue with this regime.

Mostly biofeuls discussion, manufacturing, possible alternate fuel technology and more. There was representation from other fields too like cement and land etc, but a very positive summit that seems to have switched on a lot of people.

A humble thank you to our Chinese counterparts for participating. One world, one love!

The Terminator and The Future - love it!

I know! I thought this was a post about the new Terminator film and something to do with Rob being in it, but then it's all about the green thing again. Cool!

Rob is such a cutie, the Orange ad is hilarious!

It is excellent to read this. Thank you for highlighting it. I would have had no idea this occurred if it wasn't for reading it here and it's a big story. Big deal getting the Chinese on side and having the summit. Well done to Governor Schwarzenegger and to Mr Lowe for their ongoing efforts.

The future is about being clean and green and it's fantastic to see the Governor achieve something an old President couldn't. I too have hopes pinned on Obama in the Oval Office. Here's hoping for more change everywhere (except climate change!)

Did you hear the one about rob lowe, the chinese, the terminator and the future?

Funny title, I really thought this would be a joke, but cool to see this kind of stuff happening.

Do you think Arnie held the door open for his guests and said: "Come with me if you want to live."

Anonymous said...

LOL! Doesn't Reese say that?

Anonymous said...

In T2, Arnie says it!

Man I can't still believe the Terminator, Conan and Hercules is running California and not doing a bad job about it. Only in America!!

I think it's awesome, I hate it when stars use their power and presence for political gains but at least this guy has renounced his bad lifestyle and done good for the planet and I hear he was great when the fires happened. Rob is just pure class. Met him here a couple of years back and he's a really good family man. Nice wife and kids too. Rob if you're reading, thanks!

I LOVE THIS QUOTE! IT JUST SHOWS HOW HE DOES HIS PART FOR GOOD. ALSO LOVE HIM IN BRO AND SIS!

I think his role in the West Wing really was magic. He made things important and am sure he really is his character rather than the other way round.

Bring back Sam Seaborn!

SAM SEABORN ROCKED! I stopped watching when he left. I'm so tempted to watch the DVDs but am holding out ebcause I don't want to watch an episode without Sam in it.

C.J.: I don't care what it is, I care what it looks like.
Sam: And I care what it is. And I think it's high time we all spent a little less time looking good and a little....
C.J.: A little more time being good?
Sam: Yes.
C.J.: Yeah, I've heard that before.

Anonymous said...

LOL, that's so Sam and so Rob. Spend a little more time being good. Rob you can look good and be good at the same time.

Bob: Something's heading east in the sky over the Pacific. It's in and out of our radar. We can't see it, and it's up there right now. I leave you with that thought.

Sam: It's been good meeting with you, and I hope that you don't feel that you wasted your time. I leave you with this pen.

I leave you with this pen!!!!! LOL, classic!

You see, the writing was witty, Rob was brilliant and perfectly cast. He was terrific in A Few Good Men too, Sorkin needs to write for Rob again. Although I really liked him in Salem's Lot and Lyon's Den. But Rob in the WW is etched forever in history as perfect casting, exemplary performance and the definable role of this era. Rob, if you're reading, you rock!

So good to see an event like this happening and Rob and Arnold making a difference. I hope others like the HEADS OF STATE, LEADERS OF THE WORLD take note. And why was this not reported? I have to read about it on this blog? It should have been front page news and on news channels! We cracked China and they may now listen and get involved, that's such a big thing!!

Mallory: Sam?
Sam: It's my day of jubilee.
Mallory: I despise you and everything you stand for.
Sam: All right, my day was a little bit better a few seconds ago, but that's all right.
Mallory: How could you write that position paper?
Sam: Which position paper?
Mallory: Don't play dumb with me.
Sam: No, honestly, I am dumb. Most of the time I'm playing smart.

I have never seen this show and am going to start as soon as I can rent it! Sounds hilarius!

"I told them that we need to bring our countries to the table to have a dialogue to figure out how we can solve global warming together," said Rob who invited the officials to attend a filming of his television show Brothers & Sisters.

Now THAT'S a nice gesture. Why can't all stars do nice things like this. I mean it's not like he invited his local MP so he could pull in a few favours, he called in people he's never met but could hopefully leave a lasting impression on and encourage them to do something nice for the world. That counts. Amazing guy!

"Solve global warming together" is the bit that gets me excited. He CARES! Great stuff Rob!

Rob Lowe, The Chinese and the Terminator - whoda thought? Great to see someone doing something about this, China's history has been chequered to say the least in terms of environmental responsibility and I am extremely pleased these two have got them talking.

St Elmo's Fire is a classic. I still watch it and some of it still rings true. You invent things to get you through and rely on your friends. This site to me represents a slice of that mentality because we're in this together and it's up to all of us. We rely on each other to play our parts and together make one big effort at saving the planet. What gets you through each day knowing the planet is in such dire straits? It's knowing others are doing something and you can too, and we know that through things like this site and the articles and information they post. Thanks, you guys are my St Elmo's Fire.

Why aren't we doing similar things in the UK? I want to see us uniting as a global community rahter than doing our little pockets of work.

Biofuel has been bashed a bit and seems to be finally making some headway. I presume this isn't biofuel in it's current/previous incarnation as that wasn't so green. But excellent to see people talking and pushing for action.

Arnold is awesome!

Thanks for the Seaborne quotes SOS, great memories!

This is a fantastic thing that they are trying to push global warming on the agenda for us. good stuff.

Cool!

Go Hollywood! Yeah!

Anonymous said...

What a nice gesture!

Let's hope 'they'll be back!'

Anonymous said...

LOL! I was waiting for someone to say that.

Nice snapshot. One guy runs California in real life and the other the US in reel life. Both have a special relationship with the Chinese now. What are the odds?

I can't stop smiling when I see this pic and post!

Post Xmas and I'm still smiling when I read this. The boy did good.
