Think global: Shop local!

Have you been to Harrow town centre lately? Make your festive shopping a bonus point in terms of sustainable transport by buying local and adding convenience as well as cutting down your carbon footprint.
If you're shopping for a few and are able to, take public transport as the town centre has excellent transport links to and from around the borough and beyond. If you need to do a lot of shopping, why not carshare with a friend who's also buying and halve the petrol cost and share a coffee?
The above photos were taken today during a casual stroll in the town centre and it's wonderful to see the festive lights and the shops buzzing with so much activity. Through shopping locally you not only support Harrow businesses but also are helping the environment through making less of a journey than if you travelled out of the borough. There are a wide variety of shops with something for everyone in Harrow so enjoy this period, think global and shop local!

I've vowed to attempt to shop local the next two weeks then anything I haven't got will be an online order. My first sustainable xmas!

online ordering rocks..unless they don't guarantee stock or xmas delivery!

I went into Harrow and was amazed at how busy it was, it was packed last night (Thurs evening). Apparently Debs, M&S and others are all having 20% off days and have some fantastic bargains. I picked up a few things and am going later this afternoon to complete my shopping. Buy early guys, buy local! Let's greenify the world!

I bought a whole bunch of stuff from Woolies, I can't understand all this talk of it going under when it was so busy in harrow!

I really enjoy Xmas shopping and hate it when it's packed. I love shopping in harrow around this time because it's a good mix of indoor shopping in the centres and ourdoor on the high st. I also like that every corner has a coffee shop so you can chill, watch people bustling around with their shopping and feelgood about having done yours!

plus the cinema's there and the gym, harrow town centre has it all...except decent restaurants.

yes, we are unfortunate victims of the fast food frenzy that's swept the world.

I know, everyone wants conveninece. Fast food and fast service. That's why online ordering's booming too. Hope Harrow-vians shop local too! I always buy my groceries and clothes locally, there's not much that you can't get in Harrow now.

Went Harrow on the weekend and it's looking lovely. It's also not as busy as I thought. I remember the mad rushes and while it's definitely busy it's not mad busy, which means get your shopping done now!

Harrow has really improved as a shopping district in recent times. River Island, Debenhams (which is why I always go into town), Primark, Marks, Tescos, Vue, Disney Store, HMV, Woolworths,Mothercare, BHS, Next, Top Man, Accessorise, great coffee shops and Italian restaurants and loads more.

I enjoy going to Harrow especially since they hung all the illegal street traders. I just miss the model shop..

Some people are such scavengers. Saw a sad sight in Woolies Harrow when a lady who had been in the queue for 10 mins (compared to the rest of the punters who were waiting for longer because of the madness at their sale)spent 10 mins complaining how the discount she was getting on her toy (50% off) should be more as they were closing down anyway. Then another game she bought was only 30% off and so she started whining about how it should be at least 50% off. You could see the staff were a bit shocked. They get paid to be on the til, have just found out they may lose their jobs and all they get instead of a thank you for the years you put in was an old lady who wanted to take as much as she could from the carcasses.

Shame that, Woolworths Harrow seem to always have the same lot of staff and they're a friendly bunch. Ratbag lady has to take all she can.

I still can't believe Woolworths is closing down!!!!!
