London Freewheel

'Give your car the day off' promotion was in full swing today as people were interviewed about what would encourage them to switch one car journey a week. The results were positive and encouraging. More on this in a future blog entry.

This weekend is a great time to dust off a bike you haven't used in a while and get the family out for the return of the day of the bicycles. Yes, the London Freewheel is back!

Sponsored by Hovis last year and brought to you this year with the backing of Sky Sports, the London Freewheel is an event where you can cycle on main London routes near landmarks without fear of the dangers of cycling on the road. Roads are closed to cars and you can experience the freedom of cycling across the world's most buzzing capital.

This free event runs from 0930 to 1630 on Sunday September 21st 2008. For more details and to attempt to register last minute, visit www.londonfreewheel.com. Of course it's the second such event this year and no way as cool as our Harrow Mass Bike Ride, but since we were inspired by them last year, we'll accept this one'll be bigger than ours.

See you there!

Love London, love the freewheel! Just wish the corporate sponsors would drop off, don't like the advertising associated with it all.

There was last year but then it was sported by hovis then so had free sarnies. This time they'll probably be energy sucking plasma screens everywhere promoting matches.

I hope Ken turns up, or Boris. Nice to see some political support. Also like the route, would recommend it to everyone and it's completely safe. loads of patrollers and no cars, it's cycling heaven.
