Hollywood actor Rob Lowe who portrays a member of Congress on television, recently promoted tax credits for people who add a plug-in feature to hybrid cars and trucks.
Not long ago he testified before a special House panel looking at energy and global warming issues. Later, he appeared at a demonstration featuring a Toyota Prius that had been converted to a plug-in hybrid.
Lowe said his interest in clean energy was not new. Recent events, he said, led him to become more active on the issue.
"The first money I ever made and was able to invest, I invested in an alternative energy company going back 25 years," he said.
He promoted plug-in hybrids, which have both electric and gasoline motors, plus a battery pack that can be recharged at home.
Lowe, who drives a converted PHEV from A123, said, "I have been driving this car around and I have to tell you, it did what my mother couldn't do. It did what my driving instructor couldn't do - it's made me a better driver," Lowe said.

Rob Lowe just does not age, I can't get over how good looking he is! And the fact that he's doing his part to save the environment just makes it better. Go green, Rob!
An amazing device that just makes a decent car even better and greener. I had heard about how the Prius was not the most fuel efficient car but the most hyped and now with this device it makes a huge difference. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Rob is a legend, I saw him on stage in London a few years back and it's great to see he's doing his bit for the environment too. More efforts like these please Hollywood!

Plug in hybrid technology is fantastic. it makes a fuel efficient car more efficient. Can this be standard and more widely available please? I for one would like to reduce my dependancy on foreign oil which has had many wars fought over it and lives lost. Save the planet, save on road tax and save lives. It's win-win all the way baby.
I am based in the US and have one of these. It's fantastic. You should lobby your courts for this too and insist on the tax breaks for plug ins. Your town seems a nice one given some of the comments and blog entries, hope I can visit it some day.
