This phrase has been around for ages. Simply put it means what can YOU do that will impact the bigger picture. Whether it's washing at a lower temperature, recycling or taking a walk instead of a drive, your actions will impact on the local environment and global community.
One local group which is trying to have a positive impact on Harrow is Harrow Agenda 21. HA21 is an environmental forum which is a partnership of community groups, individuals, schools, businesses and the council committed to making Harrow a more sustainable place to live and work.
If you've ever thought about joining a local group or meeting like-minded individuals, why not go along to HA21's film night which is this Monday and will be a screening of "The Power of Community: How Cuba survived peak oil".
The film starts at 7pm at the Civic Centre in Harrow, to book your free seat at the screening email info@harrowagenda21.org.

Think Global, Act Local to me means doing things like recycling which is now happenning everywhere. We all do it and its better than the old style black bin bags that would just dump everything. We do it, it's become a part of our weekly tasks of putting the bins out and we're helping the environment too. It's not caused us any problems (apart from when the bins aren't collected) and is good because we're all doing it and it makes a difference.
'Think global, act local' - sums up, to me, the way a global citizen thinks. Globalisation has changed all our local communities in rich and poor countries - we have the power locally to influence global events and bring about positive changes.
You can act in simple ways in your local community while being considerate about the global affect your actions will have.
One of the most obvious examples that come to mind of people 'thinking global, act localing' is the fantastic development of Fair Trade. People campaigning and promoting locally at supermarkets giving away free samples and explaining the idea and people buying the products at home and at work now support thousands of farmers to live and farm in a more sustainable way.
It's us to all of us to think globally and act locally - if you want real sustainable development and to deal with climate change, it really is up to you to get involved with a local group or campaign.
It's a good feeling! - I really feel part of my local community and that I'm working with other global citizens, why? because I get involved.
