MAD MEN star goes GREEN

Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser has decided to ditch the car in favour of public transport. He's not only talking the talk but walking the walk.. literally. He's also just done a public service announcement promoting trains in the US (which we provided a teaser of last week) and has told the New York Times:
“Instead of driving and being stressed out about traffic, you can work your scene, you can do your exercises or whatever on the bus. Everyone’s got their own deal.”

The truth about cars..

“They’ve done a study and they’ve found that people under 30 no longer view cars as status symbols or even positive things. They look at them as pollutants.” - Mad Men's Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell).

Mad Men Star says IT'S UP TO ALL OF US

Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser, who features in the High Speed Trains video on the blog earlier this week, believes in an 'It's Up to All of Us' lifestyle for all. He's not only vegetarian but has also given up his car.
“If there is some way you can give up meat or give up your car on the weekends or something small like that, I think every little difference in our own lives makes a big difference when done by the masses.”

Sunny Days

In the past few days we've seen downpours and unseasonal sunshine. It's always great to see so many people out walking whatever the weather. From large umbrellas embracing couples from above to children's rain boots splashing in puddles, the wet weather has not stopped people from getting out and walking.

Today's sunshine has brought with it many people strolling outside and making the most of the dry and bright day.

Fitting a walk into your day can do wonders for your health. During our podcast with Mayte Garcia, she also shared how a regular walking routine made her jeans looser as the pounds were walked off. So whatever the weather, enjoy a walk!

PS The podcast is almost ready and is coming soon!

It's the last day of 2010, a year where the global community of netizens raised our spirits, expressed support and helped our campaign grow to a height we never imagined.

Thank you to all of you and here's to the future.

A future we are all contributing to through our daily efforts.

Happy 2011.

PS To the hundreds of incoming messages about Mayte: YES! THE PODCAST IS COMING SOON!

The X Factor

The It’s Up to All of Us campaign has seen many celebrities step up and offer support, endorsements and speak out for the cause. The latest is actress, model and dancer Mayte Garcia, who flew into London to be a special guest on last weekend’s The X Factor, and recorded a special podcast with us to talk about the environment.

Mayte enjoys walking and cycling and insists on car sharing when possible, to make the journey more fun. She’s not only an environmentalist but also an avid animal lover and shared many stories from her life about growing up and getting to know different areas through her journeys.

Watch for the exclusive podcast featuring Mayte at www.itsuptoallofus.co.uk this December.

Our Tweetathon

Thank you to everyone who contacted us on twitter asking for help with their journeys during the tube strike. We came, we saw, we helped! A lot of people managed to complete their journeys thanks to the excellent bus service, but many took to the streets to walk and enjoyed the pleasant weather. The bikes were also out and we beat the tube strike! THANK YOU! We're exhausted!

New Era

We've taken a step back from the blog in the past few days to reflect, collate and plan for the months ahead. We've read and responded to comments and are planning an apt way forward for the It's Up to All of Us campaign. Rest assured much of what you enjoy will remain, with some new media, more giveaways and even more greening of journeys.

We're going away for around 2 weeks to put some things together so come back around the end of October for our next blog post. And be prepared for some giant green leaps in 2011.

Thank you for your continued support, appreciation and participation. Without you, the planet would be less greener.

Cycle Dating

One of our walkers met a cyclist this morning and they are now meeting up for scones and coffee. We could have our first sustainable relationship going on thanks to It's Up to All of Us.

WalkMan and CycleGirl asked we post this and who are we not to oblige.

Keep active, kids.

Be a Hero. Save the Planet.

It's wet today but apparently will brighten up tomorrow. Every time it rains, someone says it's not practical to walk or cycle. By doing so you'll be doing something that could save the planet and you'll be a hero. On that note we thought you'd like to hear our conversation with some other real heroes, the good folks at Calamity Comics in Harrow. With businesses like yours who commit to travelling sustainably, we can change the world. Thank you for your efforts. It's Up to All of Us!
