We recently received an email from a reader of the blog regarding the number of sports activities on at this time.
They mentioned that the European Football had just finished, Wimbledon was in full swing and in a few weeks the Olympic games will be underway. They also said while they have no interest in sports they felt that if people spent as much time taking part in physical activity as watching these sports we'd be a fitter nation!
It is a Summer of activity but there's never the need to only get active during 'sporting times'. We'll soon be launching our own support for this period through the Everyone's A Champion website. This aims to simply promote getting more active through the way you travel with the backdrop of the games. Wherever you go, you'll see brand tie-ins, advertising from Olympic partners, there'll be a lot more pressure on public transport and many more visitors to London because of this event, so why not own it and take control of the aspect you can: THROUGH THE WAY YOU TRAVEL.
By cycling when you can (for leisure or commuting to work) and walking more (the rain should never hold you back!), every journey you take makes you a champion. You may not be on an Olympic route or on a race track but the fact that you chose to walk or cycle instead of taking the car makes YOU a champion for taking an initiative that is good for your health and the environment.
We've been hearing about the pressure on London's public transport system during the games for months and the roads will be a lot busier too, so why not take the fastest route around for short local trips by walking? It'll be beneficial during the busy Summer and you might start a habit you can continue in the future.
This Summer, try travelling in a more active way and support active travel! It can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, helps maintain a healthy heart and can even help you lose weight. And it's free!
